     Murano glass jewelry is world famous for its beauty and collectability. Originating in Rome, the hand blown glass has a very interesting history. Murano glass started being produced sometime in the 9th century Rome. However, later the Venetian Republic moved the foundries to Murano in 1291, fearing a fire that would destroy the cities mostly wooden buildings. The glass makers were so sought after and revered, that they were able to wear swords and their daughters were allowed to marry into the finest families. 45% of the inhabitants were in some way directly involved in the production and distribution of the highly sought after product. Venetian glass can still be found in Murano glass to this day. That is just a very brief history of Murano glass, and the whole story can be found online, very easily.
