murano

For years my grandmother has been collecting Murano glass. She has all kinds of different Murano pieces from vases to ashtrays, to glasses and even some cool looking art pieces. I don't really know how many pieces of Murano she has, but I do know that she was about 10 years old when she got her first Murano glass object.

She loves to tell the story of how she got it from her mother. Well, it was actually from the store, but her mother gave her the last five cents she needed to buy it. She had been saving up her money for something special for over a year. The next time they went into town to the small general store she was going to buy something. She didn't what at the time. When they arrived at the store, she saw a beautiful blue bowl made out of Murano glass. She really wanted to buy it, but it was five more cents than what she had. Her mother saw how sad she was that she didn't have enough so she gave her the nickel. Ever since then, she has been excited about Murano glass.

Last month as I was helping her clean out some old boxes, we came across that first Murano bowl. It would have been beautiful, but it had some chips in the glass and a crack in the middle. I could tell that it was sad for her knowing that this special bowl was now broken. I decided then to look for a Murano bowl like that. I went online to search for it and learned a great deal about Murano in the process. I came to a website called My Glass Beautiful at www.myglassbeautiful.com. They carried a lot of different styles of glass and glass gifts. After searching through the site for a few minutes I came to a Murano bowl that looked a lot like my grandmothers. I bought the Pre-owned Murano Glass from My Glass Beautiful with plans to give it to her for her birthday which was a week ago.

When her birthday came around I gave her the new bowl. I told her I knew it wasn't exact, but maybe it would bring back her memories. She loved it. She told me that she had never received a gift as special as that one. She put it on her dresser beside a picture of her mom. We stood there for a few minutes together with our memories. It was great to share.
