I found this beautiful Murano pre-owned glass bowl online today and immediately ordered it. It reminds me of the colors of a male peacock which are beautiful birds (especially at a distance). Murano glass comes from Venice, Italy area. I read where Murano glass got its home because the powers that be did not like all the glass factories in Venice because of the fire danger, so they moved the glass makers to a nearby town, Murano. Since then, Venice has been known for its beautiful forms of glass, of which Murano is an important one.
My sister introduced me to Murano glass after she returned from Venice with a suitcase full of beautiful Murano glass objects to give to her friends and family. Besides the Murano glass, she also gave me some beautiful lace handmade in Italy, too. I treasure both, but absolutely love the Murano glass. I'm going to start collecting Murano glass as a hobby. I have been collecting Swedish crystal for a number of years but now the colors and textures of the Murano glass have me hooked.
The website where I ordered this bowl has many more beautiful objects to choose from. The name is My Glass Beautiful located at http://www.myglassbeautiful.com and the title fits the site to a T. I plan to spend a lot of time there to make sure I build my Murano glass collection with really beautiful objects. I'm having a cabinet built to show them off. We have curious kitties and one of them loves to knock things to the floor. We keep the Swedish crystal behind doors, so sheltering the Murano glass from the kitties is not a stretch for us. When we entertain with it, we'll simply bring it out and make sure the cat stays away from the tables where we display it or keep it in the center of the stands so it's less likely to fall off.
We like having beautiful objects around us. Between the Swedish crystal and the Murano glass, our home will sparkle at night when we turn on the cabinet lights. They are LED lights so they're very bright and I love watching the light refract through the crystals. It will be interesting to see how the light sparkles through the Murano glass objects we are going to start collecting. I've bought candles that are similar to the glass and the light coming through them when they are lighted is so pleasing. I might even look around for votive candle holders made from Murano glass to get the effect permanently. There are so many possibilities when collecting art glass.
