Blue and Green Geode Bowl with Pinched Rim
I don’t think anyone out there can disagree about the beauty of blown glass pieces. My dad actually took up a blown glass class because he loved it so much. In one word, he called it hard. I believe him. Check out the video below for a small portion of the blown glass creation process. It is pretty insane how many steps and room for error there is when working with liquid hot glass. My dad said all of the more dangerous portions of the process were taken over by instructors but he did get a feel for how everything works. A couple of the vases he made in class sit on a guest room dresser. When I first saw them, I figured they were just another store bought home decoration but he told me otherwise. They looked really good if you ask me.
<--Serious Work Involved
I have been thinking about what to get the family for Christmas. I always like to start brainstorming early. Since my dad took a glass blowing class, I think everyone would really enjoy a hand blown glass gift. He said something about Murano pieces. Until doing some research I didn’t really nothing anything about them.
What I found was an array of beautiful pieces that weren’t exactly cheap. At first, I wrote Murano glass off as a possible gift because of the price. Then I found an online blown glass retailer called My Glass Beautiful at http://www.myglassbeautiful.com/ which sells pre-owned Murano pieces. I found one pictured above that looks like a really nice Christmas gift. It is called the Blue and Green Geode Bowl with Pinched Rim and is selling for a very nice price.
It would be the perfect piece to add to their bathroom décor because of the colors. Many of the pre-owned pieces at My Glass Beautiful have a little back-story talking about where they came from. This one said: Recently acquired from a prominent Dallas estate, this 50 year old piece is showing some wear mostly on the base. There are also some small nicks around the base but it does not detract from its overall beauty.
I have never bought a gift like this for Christmas. I consider it art. Usually I stick to gift cards, a new best-seller or fragrances. A blown glass gift would really blow everyone away. I think the best gifts are those that are personal and unexpected. This piece really fits the bill.
