My Grandma really enjoyed hand blown glass. Her favorite choice came in the form of vases. She collected them and displayed them in a special floor to ceiling case. The case was made of beautiful cherry wood with beveled glass doors and shelves. When the sun light hit that display full of multi colored vases it was a thing of awe and beauty.
Hand blown glass is fun to collect. Every piece is as individual as you and I. My grandma paid close attention to the process of making hand blown glass and visited a nearby factory often. I remember as a small girl gingerly walking with her on many tours. I learned quickly to look and not touch! At the end of a tour she and I would spend a long time in the gift shop picking out one special piece of hand blown glass. We always came home with new vase.
My Grandma's vase collection quickly outgrew that antique cherry display case. About ten years ago my sister and I had a replica made for her. She was able to move some of her hand blown glass vases into roomier quarters so every piece could glow in it's own glory in the afternoon sunlight! |
